Black Sea coastlines, Caucasus mountains, lush forests which cover more than 40% of the country, semi desserts, mediaeval fortresses, vibrant cities, diverse food and the welcoming culture are what this least visited, yet most abundant country has to humbly offer.
Most of us know the popular Georgina Sparks from Gossip Girl but how well do we know about the country Georgia?
Georgia is a transcontinental country in Eastern Europe and West Asia also known as Eurasia. It’s situated in the Caucasus region, at the border of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Despite its location in the Caucasus region, Georgia is generally considered to be part of Eastern Europe geographically, culturally and politically.
Would you believe it if I pointed out the fact that Georgia, the country which has the beautiful Black Sea coastlines, is the birthplace of wine, not Italy?
The winemaking tradition in Georgia is more than 8,000 years old.
Georgians use a clay jar called a Qvevri for their winemaking which has even been listed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list.
Furthermore, Georgia is known for its mountains and it is heaven for hiking enthusiasts. The northern and southern borders of the country are formed by respectively the Greater and Lesser Caucasus Mountains which is Europe’s highest mountain range. Georgia’s highest mountain is 5,201 metres above sea level. Local mountains provide trails for hiking as well as great conditions for skiing.
Is Georgia one of Europe’s most underrated countries?
